I am looking at creating a privacy screen at the back of my yard using Swedish Aspen and want to put a row cedars as well. I am wondering how close I can plant the cedar trees to the Aspen and wondering if I need to worry about the root systems at all.

We don't know what kind of cedars, how these trees would relate to one another, or to other things in the yard. As you've described I imagine one row of one species and an adjacent row of a different species. This seems like an undesirable way to create a privacy screen or to "landscape." Why the 2 species in rows like that? What else are you trying to accomplish with such an arrangement other than privacy?
