Walkway landscaping

We have an old gravel area that we put a walkway in recently and now I am looking for landscaping ideas to spice it up. It is in full sun, zone 6. Some ideas I had were fanfare, Veronica, or sedum. Also what about evergreen bushes lining the grass? Also what about a small tree?
