What to plant between mature cherry laurels?

I have five large (4'tall by about 6' wide) cherry laurels growing along the side of my ranch house. They are in a deep bed edged with bricks, and there is an approximately 6' gap between them, In past years I've planted annuals in those spaces, which looked nice. However, it doesn't look so good in the wintertime so I'd like to plant some kind of everygreen shrub this year.

What would look good with the laurels? I'm not too familiar with shrubs, and I guess I don't have much of an imagination because I can't seem to come up with anything.

There is one that I've seen at the nurseries that might work, a green & light yellow leaved euonymus, but the color wouldn't go well with our light gray siding.

Suggestions most appreciated! We're in the mid-Atlantic region.
