Material for Filling up sloped backyard

Hi,

I have a sloped backyard which slopes to 6-8 ft in 25 ft lenght. I am planning to fill it with fill material. I have already given contract for fill material. The contractor is going to use excavated matreial from a hill that is being graded for road. He said materail is all hard-pack and some subsoil between loam and gravel. Will it be good to use as fill. Now i am concerend. Please reply soon. If we fill with that materal then how much loam should we put on top? Should we put some other materail before we put loam? Thanks,

Um, what's at the bottom of that hill to keep all your soil (fill/hard-pack/subsoil/loam/whatever) in place? Also: drainage?
