What would you do with this blank spot in my yard?

Hi,
We've just put on a large addition in our backyard and are now DIYing a 400 square foot paver patio, which is about 2/3rds complete. (Boy, that was harder than I thought it would be!)

We've been left with a large blank spot in our yard from the construction and I'd really like to do something other than grass there. I'm trying to cut back on mowing!!!!

Here is a picture of what it looks like now. The shot of the woods is from the house.

We were planning on mulching around the patio. Would it look weird to extend the mulch all the way on the back of the house? Any other ideas?

Thanks!
