Ideas for driveway landscaping?

Hello all. I don't really know how to describe this, but I have a structure in my driveway that I need some help with on landscaping. It is a round, brick bordered pea gravel "pit". Please see link here, http://picasaweb.google.com/joecook.mcp/FrontYard# . My wife has been thinking about putting some knockout roses in the middle, surrounded by day lilies and then some kind of ground cover around the perimeter. Any ideas woul be appreciated!

That's an awesome focal point, IMO deserving of something much grander than Knock-Out roses.
If it was me I would do a grouping of choice dwarf conifers and use something showstopping for a centerpiece... maybe a very sculptural Japanese Maple for killer fall color.
The right small weeping Blue Atlas Cedar would be amazing.
A multi-trunked Forest Pansy, or a Lavender Twist redbud?

It's your prime spot- think it through carefully.
IMO it wants drama... but I am so not a pro.
Can't wait to see what the real minds come up with.
