The front of my house looks like the following:

I would like some ideas of what to plant to make it fuller. Yes, I did remove some shrubs that was pretty ugly that came with the house purchase. I'm in zone 5 and this area only sees the sun until noon time.

I'm copying a couple of ideas, but I'm not sure if the they would be good for my zone.

This picture was taken on a road trip. I liked the greenery above the evergreen. I'm not sure if this can even be identified. I wouldn't mind some minor color with it. Also, I need to keep in mind of the height of the windows.

Any help would be appreciated. I would prefer low maintenance, but not at the expense of having something acceptable.
