Center of Backyard. It is a blank slate. Would like to do trees for privacy and looks. Pine? A few different kinds? Should we cluster them in the corners?

In your 21:17 picture, the shrub at the L corner of the house is sure to outgrow the overly small, confining bed. And the planting bed peninsula that swoops out in a protective way to encapsulate the landing area of the walk will, if planted, seem confining and obstructive. It would be better to reconfigure this bed to almost the reverse shape it now holds. And then, don't have the stone sitting on top of the ground where the wall ends near the walk. It should be embedded and the stones rebuilt in a tidy, precise way.
