I am wondering what some people here prefer for edging.

I am looking to replace my plastic edging with chopped stone and mortar edging around my flower beds. Will these prevent grass and weeds to go over/under them? I just want a clean look, add curb appeal, and they look easy to maintain.

Does anyone have suggestions before I go on with my project? I have seen people just throw down some small flagstones (or other type of stones) as edging, but they always say they have to pick the weeds every now and then.
