Stone Beds - dealing with the grass???

Carole Westgaard

I have two foot high stone 'walls' that form almost all the garden beds. And a lawn that goes right up against the stone. This is the stupidest design idea ever. He cuts the grass and leaves the 'edges' of it to grow tall and there is no way I can keep up with the trimming. What are some suggestions for dealing with this problem? Do I create a border between the stone and the grass consisting of some kind of mulch? Laying flat bricks or tiles is out of the question for budget reasons. Any ideas much appreciated.

PS I wish I could dump all the grass completely but we've had this argument and I lose.
