Need idea for parking area

kitasei

We have just had an area on a steep wooded slope made into a parking area to hold a dozen or so cars. It was filled with rock and topped with crushed rock/concrete. The contractor has suggested that we now press Item 4 gravel into it to give it a durable, weed-free surface for years. This is an area that will get very light use, so durability is not really an issue. I don't want to spend the surprising and unexpected cost of the gravel. May I have the merits and drawbacks about other options, like spreading wood chips or even top soil seeded with something that will not need mowing? The area is shaded by locust, maple and ash trees. It has been a very wet area, but the new fill may change the drainage. The contractor is making a four foot dirt berm on the edge, as a barrier for cars and to enable us to plant a screen. Thank you for any ideas or examples of what we might do.
