Retaining Wall Stone as Backfill

I'm raising a large portion of our yard's ground level up approximately 10 inches or so in some spots. We have some retaining wall stone (about 15yrs old) that we are discarding. Is it a bad idea to bury the stone in a single layer as backfill? Would have about 4 inches of top soil dressed over the top of the stone and would lay a silt fabric cloth between top soil and stone to prevent run through.
