| Hello,
I'd like to lay a natural stone walkway traversing my front lawn from driveway to front door. The path I've designed will encompass a small retaining wall on the up hill side and a slight fall away on the downhill (the walkway crosses the sloped lawn almost like a mild ledge). I had envisioned laying the flagstone atop crushed stone and sand foundation. I fear without a border on the downhill path edge, my foundation and stone would eventually start slide down the hill. Would like to avoid a mortar foundation if possible. Any suggestions? thanx, Steve |

| Google snap edge or paver restraint. You secure it to your compacted gravel base with 1/2" spikes. |

| does it matter if the foundation lies on clay in the thought that gravel base would be trapped in the excavated hole so to speak? |

| your down hill border doesn't have to be mortared but it does have to be deep and solid enough so as not to have your subsurface layment not filter out and erode away. You can use a 2x material ( width to depend on your slope and subbase) or you can use ledge stones. |
