dry stack natural stone retaining wall

I am in the process to build a 2.5' natural stone dry stack retaining wall. Do I need to put drainage pipe behind the wall? most of the online articles say no need that pipe in dry stack wall because water can easily flow between stones. What's your opinion?

No need to put a drainage pipe behind the wall. Make sure you put in a good solid base and use gravel behind each course to stabilize the rocks and reduce washout of soil behind the wall.
