Planting on a Slope

Hi there...

I have a small slope on my lawn that I would like to create a flower bed on. What do I need to do to keep the earth from washing away? Just a retaining wall at the bottom? How high? Are there other things I need to do? stagger rocks throughout? Do you need a picture?
