Outdoor handrail??

I have created a rustic path to a lower level area of our backyard. It is simply 3' length of 4x4 staked to the ground.

Our lot has a lot of elevation, so there are a couple of sections of the path that I would like to add a handrail to assist children or elders.

Does anyone have any references, pictures or links to something that would be unobtrusive, inexpensive and fairly easy to build.

I had originally thought of using simply putting in 4x4 posts upright and using rope but I couldn't find any good pictures and wasn't sure if it would be taunt enough.

I'm not clear whether your path is made of wood, or is a different surface held in place by the wood. If you are walking on wood, it is very slippery when wet and you will need a very solid and dependable hand rail, not just rope.

I don't like rope anyway; it does not provide a fixed enough support for my taste. I would go with a solidly anchored wood rail or metal bar.
