Mass Planting or Mixed Planting?

It is time to dig, divide and replant my perennial plants. GT Iris, tall day-lily, daffodil, etc. The plants are mass planted several years ago in their "temporary" beds.

The new planting area is a long strip, about 5' wide and up to 50' long, at the edge of the lawn. I still can't decide if I should replant them as a mix bed, or each plant in its own bed.

Mass planting is more dramatic, easy to maintain. But each bed is separate from the other.

Mixed bed would look like a real border. The Iris and daffodil can shield the day-lily from the deer. But it is a little harder to maintain.

What else do I miss?
