What do you mean by "each bed is separate from the other." What separates them ... a strip of grass? I'm wondering why they can't abut in masses, which I think would have more dramatic impact and be more interesting than a highly varied tweedy blend of plants. Take an inventory of square footage of each plant available and work (on paper) at organizing something out of it that works for the overall bed, leaning toward mass plantings. Is the bed size and shape etched in stone? If not, you might want to submit a photo of the area.

I never care for string-thin racing stripe plant edgings, especially in series, thinking that they look skimpy for anything but the smallest places. But a planted edging border that has at least 3' line width can work to bring unity to disparate plantings behind it. If such a border has an analogous color blend it can be charming and unifying. Do you have any lowish plants in your mix that could make a unified edge for the whole bed?

I would say that is basically etched in stone.

Is there a lot line at one side of the bed? Will the bed be viewed from one side or both sides? It doesn't look 5' wide (but I don't have a great gauge to measure from.)
