Cement siding as edging?

Posted by sciencemike mnz4 (My Page) on

There was an edging post a day or so ago but I thought this might be a little off topic for that thread. I love the super clean look of steel edging but with my wife under-employed and a baby on the way the cost is prohibitive. Every time I walk by the cement siding at the Home Despot, a little penny pinching creative twinge goes off and I wonder if it would make a nice clean edge. It should be very water and rot resistant and it appears to be fairly flexible. I am nervous about it being too brittle though and breaking if you hit it with a shovel. Has anybody tried it yet?

Thanks,

Mike

I have worked with the cement board on some projects and it is not very flexible. It breaks without warning when it bends too much. I think that it may be suitable for straight sections but will damage easily with a shovel and expose the grey interior.

Be patient for a few more months. As soon as your baby comes, you'll be too busy to worry about edging for a couple of decades, and you'll be able to use the money you save. ;-)

Congratulations, BTW!
