Need info on Trumpet Lillies

I was just given about 30 bulbs which are in a large zip lock bag staying moist. I live in south central Va and the temps are now 30 to 55 degrees. Should I plant these in the ground now or what? I'm an experienced gardener and have grown these before but I'm afraid it is too late in our season here. These needed to be in the ground in Oct.

Hi Harold-
I live in NC zone 7b with similar temps as yours, and am still planting a few bulbs here and there. If your soil doesn't stay frozen all winter, I'd say you can still get them in. They thrive in cooler temps and grow their roots under ground before growing their leaves. (as you probably already know) Try it, what could it hurt? Tthe longer you wait to plant, the more shriveled they will get and lose their viability. Just my opinion. Good luck!
