Dana, Dana, Dana!!! LOL You mean to tell me YOU don't have these vines? I know you are also on 'the other site', so if you will ask for them on the tropicals forum, I'm sure you will get them.

You might also want to identify 'drunken sailor vine' as rangoon creeper, botanically known as Quisqualis indica. Hugs!

Hi Dana. I have queens wreath and if you are looking for rangon creeper I have that as well. I don't have any more space for vines, do you have anything else to trade?

How is the ylang ylang doing?

RE: looking for a few vines

Good morning, Dana! I check this forum about 4 times a day - I'm addicted to vines, too!

Petrea volubilis, commonly called Sandpaper Vine or Queens wreath is lovely - I have one, in the ground, that has only bloomed once.

I have the rangoon creeper vine - double blooms - that is also in the ground and has never bloomed.

I can't belive they come back ever year after the cold maybe they need to be cut back some need to bloom on new growth. I'd give it some cow manure compost a couple times of year couldn't hurt.

RE: looking for a few vines

My Petrea volubilis rarely blooms and I've had it for almost 10 years. Of course it's container grown and gets cut back in the fall so that doesn't help. I saw a spectcular one in PR last spring. It was huge and covered with bi-color purple blooms. The foliage really does feel like sandpaper. Zone 9 usually has the double Rangoon Creeper in stock. I only grow the single variety. A really nice winter bloomer is the Chalice vine. Mine's in bloom now. The flowers are huge and fragrant.

You sound like a vine hound too I go to the epcot flower show every spring if your ever here oh what a show check it out well worth it Thats where I found the queens wreath in full bloom. I grabbed seeds from it I thought but what grew doesn't look like it. I posted it on another site no one knows what it is I'm still growing it die hard here lol There had to be old it was very woody had white christmas light running in it looked really nice. Wonder whats the difference from Chalice and solandra same or not or golden globe as I have heard it called

 o
RE: looking for a few vines

The Golden Chalice is the Solandra maxima which has a huge yellow bloom. There's also the less common Solandra longiflora, also called a Chalice vine, which has smaller, lighter flowers. I wish it wasn't a winter bloomer because I have to cut it back so much to move it into the greenhouse and lose most of the blooms. I always try to leave a few branches so I can enjoy at least a few blooms.

I've been to the flower exhibits at Epcot a couple times. The last was in 2010, and I've never been super impressed. The plants are beautiful but I was expecting some more of the less common varieties.

I've never been able to germinate Petrea volubilis seeds. I know they were fresh because I snatched them myself. lol Can you post a pic of your unknown plant here?

BTW I am an absolute vine freak!

Well must be your long lost sister if something ever happens to me there going to have to cut there way in. I have a decent amount here. I have quite a few pasey's Frangipani vine, garlic, madagascar Jasmine, sky blue, Hawaiian sunset, too many to list but yes I love them too. I am not very best on the computer as far as pic's

 o
RE: looking for a few vines

You COULD start me a Frangipani vine, Dana!

 o
RE: looking for a few vines

Dana do you grow Chonemorpha penangensis? I got one a couple weeks ago and was wondering what were the best growing conditions. How often and when do you fertilize it?

 o
RE: looking for a few vines

You had me going for a minute thought oh boy heres another I would like lol nope I already have it fragapani vine here I have so much I try to use dynamite once a yr app. All my stuff gets compost too a couple times a yr top dressing

 o
RE: looking for a few vines

When I saw kayjones mention the Frangipani vine I thought I'd ask. I used the other name as I've seen other vines referred to as Frangipani. What's dynamite?

 o
RE: looking for a few vines

Fragipani is another word they use for plumeria thats why they call the vine that. It blooms just like a plumeria. Dynamite is a Fertilizer that you can get in home depot of maybe walmart you only apply it once a year. Time release it comes in different #'s pick the right # for what your feeding. Good for me I have way to many to do it more than once
