Have: Flowers seeds WANT: Stevia

Posted by cherone7 Zone 8 - Central MS (My Page) on

I have quite a few flower seeds from various trades that I won't be using. And I just got some more. I realize this is not the seed forum, but what I need isn't necessarily a seed.

I'd REALLY like to trade for Stevia plants. I am willing to send multiple seed packs AND postage.... whatever you feel is fair. Being in MS, there are a LOT of diabetics both in my church and in the community, and I would really like to grow some stevia to help out. (I'm a diabetic as well, so I know how expensive this product is on the market!)

If there's no one with stevia out there, I'd be more than willing to trade them for heirloom veggie/edibles.I'm most interested in varieties that grow well in containers OR that are VERY easy to grow.

If you have any questions, PLEASE ask! I'd rather answer 10 emails and get a trade than have to throw seeds away.

I've never seen a Stevia plant but wondering if you've considered growing this plant from seed?

Perhaps it takes a long time to grow out to a size that could be harvested?

Is it really as sweet as sugar? Do the leaves have to be dried first before use. Do you just place one or two in a glass or cup of beverage to sweeten it? What a fascinating plant!

mary, I just wanted to comment on your link. companies selling 15 stevia seeds are a rip off and only out for a quick buck as the seeds are known to have a very low germination rate. my advise is buy a bunch (at least 100 seeds) for a few plants. There is a guy on ebay selling fresh bulk seeds for a good price and a US source below. No gauging either...

omedusa,

Thank you for the helpful comment. I didn't mean to imply the original poster purchase via the link, only to show that Stevia seed were available for sale. I should have done a better job with my comment. However, since you've explained that the seed are difficult to germinate, I can understand why the OP is looking for plants.

Thanks for the clarification. Mary
