forgive me if you already know this but weeping willow is the easiest tree of all to root. Just pick a few branches from the best looking willow in town in the spring and put them in water. Some other trees will root if kept in the water with them because they make rooting hormones.Once we cut down a willow and the giant sections of log we left on the lawn set down roots and sent up shoots

Thanks, but actually, that is why I am looking for the willows. To have plenty to use for rooting other cuttings. But, I have been trying really hard NOT to get caught snitching branches in town. Don't encourage me! :)

Sorry where i came from in new york the giant old willows rained branches in every wind storm or they fell sometimes assisted by beaver. Here in Iowa there are very few old ones and folks around here tidy up very quickly after a storm.I can understand they might be rare in your area.I have a curly willow here in fairfied that i have rooted some cuttings from this is the perfect time of year if you would like cuttings from that. I dont have access to a good weeper either now
