WANTED: Wiped out by Sandy, have needs.......

Hi gang, I live in Middlesex County NJ, one of the worst hit areas. While many plants,trees in my yard were ruined, some of our sister garden clubs suffered devastating losses in their publically kept gardens for all to enjoy.(It basically just got washed away.) I am looking for anything on my wantlist for my own needs but more importantly..the GCNJ (Garden Club of New Jersey) and my own Terra Nova GC are trying to help our sister clubs, especially district 8 (Shore area)...would you consider sending anything you have for distribution to Terra Nova then passed to our "worse off" clubs? Please e-mail me for further info....(P.S. The photo is of Sunset Park Garden in Ship Bottom, NJ on LBI,BEFORE this all happened :( This area was maintained by the GC of Long Beach Island I beleive)

The club president should contact Home Depot and Lowe's, as well as Walmart - as part of their 'giving to the community' program, they donate plants, at no cost.

This club has 5,000 members, so one or more could get on the phone and make calls to area nurserys and most likely get donations of plants, after filling the appropriate application.

Kay, yes, this is correct and I beleive our own (Terra Nova's own Gloria D.) member Gloria has volunteered to chair this "Sandy" project for the GC of NJ. We are very proud of that. I think they're all doing it already ... I am just doing this little seed/plant exchange thing on my own to present to Glor to give when they have the next committee meeting at GCNJ!! Thanks so much for you input!!

As I said, you, personally, can go to these stores and explain your plan to them, just as you did for us.

Shipping plants is expensive, so it would be much cheaper to go the way I suggested, unless you were asking for free shipping, too. I would say it would be a stretch to get many plants mailed to you, but I wish you best of luck.
