Plea for cuttings, etc. for barren yard!

Help, again...

I have moved to Colorado (northern front range), have lots of sandy soil, little water (conservation laws & rightly so!) and, being a landscape designer (retired), I've decided to xeriscape the lot, minus the veg. garden.

I have no local sources for xeriscaping plants: garden centres are quite a drive away, and my neighbours either use in-ground sprinklers or they cover their yards with rocks. I'd like to start a small trend in our little town of using plants - as well as rocks!)- to check the soil erosion problem and attract a bit of wildlife. I haven't even seen a butterfly. Just a few stray Mourning Doves.

But to get back to my plea with all of you, is there anyway I can pay for, trade for, send postage for, etc. divisions or cuttings of: sedums, sempervivums, thymes, lavenders, artemisias, even shrub willows, and desert shrubs/wild plants??

Thanks for listening!
Erylyn

Hi Erylyn,

I am not looking to trade, but can send you numerous things for postage.

TB irises (Have pics but most I plan to dig soon are NO ID), daylilies (again, pics but NO ID), maybe some yucca, and various named and un named sedum cuttings that are quite easy to root.

I require postage up front and then 1-2 weeks time to find a bit of spare (???)time to dig, package and get mailed....but I would welcome sharing those things.

If interested, drop me an email (please be sure to include member name and zip code) and I'll let you know what I plan to be shovel pruning here soon, as well as the postage cost of one of the new regional rate boxes which is a bit cheaper than the usual flat rate boxes.

If you would be interested in some seeds of plants that would be suitable for your area I am willing to send you a small amount of a variety.

Just drop me a line. I have some red yucca, glen rose yucca and these two like sand! The Glen Rose Yucca will not grow in fancy soil. LOL

I have some different colored Ice plants that I can send a small cutting of and these are water conserving plants that take little water buy will grow quickly and cover a large area much like sediums do but I think are much nicer. Look up online "Pink Ice Plant",if you like them I have yellow/orange(depends on the ph level the colors), dainty pink, heavier pink plants for cuttings and purple seeds.

I also have some smaller Texas native cactus, pencil type cactus that can get large and bushy and is really different for that area and some nice large sized edible prickly pear that I can send you a couple pads of to start a few.

Just drop me a note.
