all my garden friends

I know I am not posting a trade this time and I am not sure if I ever will again but I have to vent out my frustration and I know all the wonderful people on this site and on the seed exchange will understand my concern. We received another letter from our city engineer just as we did 2 years ago that they are going to dig on our land again. Two years ago they pulled out two of our apple trees plus after they were finished our one toilet no longer works in our house. Now they are going to dig again and pull up even more of the wonderful things that I have planted over the years which the list is:
red trumpet vines, several privacy shrubs, honeysuckle, dwarf pear, hardy fuschia, crocrosmia, japanese iris, white wisteria and all the other plants that are housed in my cold frame which are very dear to my heart. I just hope my husband and I can get through all this even though this may sound trivial to some. Thanks for listening because I know you are the ones that understand! I am 62 years old have used this site and the seed exchange to acquire some wonderful items plus have made wonderful friends I hope nothing like this happens to any of you. Just want to thank all of you for everything you have done to make me happy. All the wonderful exchanges. Your good people and thanks for listening.

(disappointed)

Sandy - what part of Ohio are you in?

I'm in Southeast Ohio (Jackson County) and if you are nearby I'd be happy to set you up with a bunch of perennial divisions in the spring. I'll probably also have surplus wintersown seedlings then too. And maybe even extra seed that I won't have room to plant.

Drop me an e-mail if you are close enough that you might want a car trunk full of goodies in the spring and we can do some planning. :)

lynda,
Thanks for your suggestion. Your pictures are wonderful and I especially like your videos. Very nice. We live in Medina county and I spoke with the engineer today that mentioned altering the plans for the sewer in order to not take out any shrubbery, etc. I really don't want to see anything else be destroyed in our yard. You did make my day so much better by your post and your offer. Love all your hard work! Thank you - happy gardening

RE: all my garden friends

Hi Sandy -

Glad to hear that the engineer is being helpful. So much better to be able to enjoy what you've already planted than to try to start again. My gardens are still fairly young but they've been planned out as my "next 50 years gardens". Sure don't need a bulldozer coming by in 10 years redesigning it for me!

I lucked out with our county this week. They deepened the ditch along the roadside by my big front border garden. When I planted that garden I started with plants I could afford to lose closest to the road, and harder to replace ones further in. (Mainly so that people walking down the road can easily steal a zinnia bloom or two without ever getting within 20 feet of the good flowers or within 40 feet of the peppers and tomatoes!)

I was prepared for the ditch crew to do some damage to the outermost row, but somehow they dug out only ditch and weeds. I don't think a landscaping crew would have done a neater job of carefully edging my ditch-side garden row. :)

I hope your digging folks take similar care with your plants. If you do find yourself in a bind and need any plants or seeds to hide the dig marks feel free to drop me a line.

Happy gardens to you too!

Lynda
