How do you protected curcuma during the winter ?

I covered mine with leaves. Not sure if they will make it tru the winter but I didn't want to dig them up again like I did last year. That was why I wanted to trade them. There aren't any clear answers as to hardiness on the internet so I will have to test this myself.
