Why have rules regarding the seed exchange.

Why, oh why, do we have any rules regarding not soliciting free seeds if people with seeds are going to disregard them? It is useless unless there is a penalty for offering to fulfill a disallowed solicitation. There. I have not had an outburst lately, so I was due. (; Alana |

| Hey Alana, you beat me to it. I agree with you 100% and now that I've said that, I've had my long overdo outburst too. Fran |

| You know, I really have to wonder if they are reading the 'sticky' or if they are reading it and just choosing to ignore it. Probably a little bit of both. I'd hate to see GW end up being like Dick's (sp) Garden. What I saw of the 'trading' (?) forums there, was a lot of folks looking for things, with seldom a mention made of trading, or of actually having a trade list posted anywhere...sigh. Sue...rbb |

It is unfortunate for the people who obey the rules. They wait for opportunities while some members thoughtlessly rush to respond to the rule breakers with offers. That is the part that annoys me most. "Dick's" does not compare with DG for trades, Sue. I would hate to see that, too. |

| As I see it there are two options. Give a warning to any member replying to a post by someone not wanting to trade and asking for free items. For the second offense, ban them. Gardenweb does remove inappropriate posts from the Seed Exchange. the other option would be to open non-trade forum where those wanting something for nothing can post. Over the many years I've been on Gardenweb, I've seen so many non-trade requests for items. We are not a seed supplier. This is an Exchange. . Seeds are not terribly expensive and can be purchased locally for those wanting something to offer in trade. Why can't the beggars ask their families, friends, local gardeners for seeds? Some join the same day and head here to request free stuff from basically anonymous people. Shame on them! |

| When I first joined the forum, I had no seeds to offer. I was new to trading, and carefully read the rules and didn't solicit. I was just feeling the place out and trying to get to know how everything worked. Thanks to a handful of very helpful people, I had a great introduction to the forum. At that time, BEAP offerings were fairly common. After some discussion, another user pointed me to those posts. I received a great package that I didn't ask for, which helped me bulk up my collection, "seeding" my ability to offer seeds of my own. This resulted in a number of very satisfying trades. In my mind, when I started here, I was afraid of offering store-bought seeds. I wasn't sure if people would want them (on the rare occasion that I have offered them, I clearly indicate that they are store bought). I think that many people feel like they are coming to the party empty-handed, because they haven't begun actually saving seeds. I think that it would be helpful if new users would actually post on this conversation side, or elsewhere on gardenweb, and get to know some people. While the seeds I have received are precious to me, the knowledge and fun I have had are the highlights. |

| I heartily agree. The Seed Exchange facilitates the exchange of a lot more than seeds. |

| Ok, i have a question, its been ages since i've been able to be on here LOL when i was on befor, you could offer postage and/or things like those little envi's for someone's seeds if it was exceptable to them. What is ok now? ya know, just got to make sure :') since we moved to Oregon, all of my stuff is back in ks, so i'm going to have to start from scratch LOL i REALLY do miss talking to you all!! |

Medo Good to see you back! Im just getting back into GW also.:) Sending you e-mail for your new addy :) You can post a offer for seeds but you can't post a topic asking for free seeds. The only way you can ask is if your posting in some one's offer post/topic :) I think members who enable the fee loaders should have some sort of punishment. a warning first then something! because they should know the rules. |

I agree. I just wanted to make sure and do it right. LOL Great to see you too! |

| Welcome to Oregon! It is a really great place to grow all kinds of plants. I've never traded with anyone from Oregon and it would be fun finally to do a "trade" with an Oregonian :) Take a look at my list. I also have some other seeds I'm trying to find out what will come out of them. |

| Thank you. Where in Oregon are you? Camas valley here. Right now I can't trade anything. All my stuff is still in ks. Lol |

| I'm from the Portland area. Any Camas growing in Camas valley? :) love that flower. Well, I do understand about no seeds, that's why I'm offering seeds from my humble collection :) For fragrant I have only herb wise seeds of lemon balm and spearmint. For pretty, have Siberian Iris. For hummers and food, Scarlet Runner Emperor bean. Some other, mostly herb seeds. Let me know if you are interested in any. Welcome to Oregon "trade"! |

Yes, blue camas! I have some blue and some more purple, I believe. If you can collect their seeds, I would love to trade for them in the fall, I might have more seeds by then :) I'm going to send you an email Picture of the purple-ish camas. |
