Big, chunky iris seed question

Posted by quiltingfox 8 LA (My Page) on

I sowed some big, chunky iris seeds last summer and they never germinated. I have some more iris seeds that are big and chunky, they look like little rocks. How do you get them to germinate? And do they have to be cold stratified?

Best to you and many thanks,
quiltingfox

Hi Qf,

Don't give up. See the link below.

Btw, meant to email you. The seeds went out today and there are small iris seeds in there. They are small because they are the dwarf breaded varieties. I have not sown mine yet, but need to get after it soon!

I also received some Iris seed from Sue and decided to try wintersowing. After checking out the link, I think that just might work:) I'll let you know... Nikki

Thanks for the link, Sue. I ws some iris seeds last winter and didn't realize they can take more than a year to germinate so discarded one container. At least I sprinkled them in my iris bed so maybe they might still sprout.
