Sometimes the GW email is not 100% reliable. Have you tried emailing him privately from your email as opposed to via GW?

RE: To: GRAMPYD

It looks like you have likely been had per his review thread. There are 8 members waiting on seeds from him.

In doing a search on his Member Name I see he only responded to seeds for postage offers. That means that all 8 of those members must have been cold emailed, or he didn't post in their threads, and no one checked to see if he had any reviews, or his join date.
On cold emails and especially from newer members, it is always best to ask that they mail their end first.

When starting a thread, I find it is always best to require all members to be sure and post to my thread. It helps me keep track of things, but also exposes anyone and everyone replying.

If I see a member with bad reviews responding in a thread, often I will alert the other member, so they can then decide if they want to trade and how best to handle it.

hth and saves someone in the future from being taken by being cold emailed

RE: To: GRAMPYD

Thank you Sue. I'm glad you're watching our backs.

Grampyd sent me an e-mail cold, too, and I was pleased for the opportunity to return the kindness so many Garden Web members have shown to me. I didn't hear from him again after I offered to send him seeds for postage. I guess that should have been my first clue, but I didn't get it until I read this post. I got off a lot easier than others did :(

RE: To: GRAMPYD

What a creepy thing to do! It is sad when someone comes in and swindles generous, trusting, honest people.

And next year if he's still into gardening, he'll probably be back under another GW name. Thanks Sue, for all you do to watch out for us. I wish there was a way to put a notice on his trade page to protect more people.

 o
RE: To: GRAMPYD

Yes, thanks Sue for watching out for us all. I agreed to a trade with Don, noticed that he had just joined GW and had no reviews, but thought I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.

Really sad that people feel they have to rob others of seeds and postage. But, YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW (in more ways than one).

Don - most of us would have sent you seeds for free if you'd have asked. That's what honest, hard working gardeners do.

RE: To: GRAMPYD

Argh! Add me to the "Been Had list" He was my first seed trade experience and I went over-board on the seeds!
I hope this doesn't happen to others cause it's so fun trading and making new garden buddies!
I still have faith in the trading/sharing system! There are good people and good seeds out there!

RE: To: GRAMPYD

To those of you who had bad experiences with grampyd, would you please go and add a review to his review thread?

grampyd's review thread

I want to encourage everyone to post reviews for trades/transactions, be they good or bad.

Please be sure and do a search for an existing review thread before starting a new review thread for a member. Using the Search Box found just below the list of threads on page 1 will yield results for just the Rate and Review Forum.

Please check for reviews before doing trades, particularly larger trades or trades of special seeds. If there is no review thread, and/or they are new to the Exchanges, one might request that the other member mail his/her end first.

hth.

Sue

RE: To: GRAMPYD

Thanks Sue, I certainly will!
PS: His name is not Don, it's DustinDashiell.
I found this from his email addy:
32-year-old Dustin Dashiell lives in Brookshire, Texas.

He seems to be an occasional user of the internet, but does not make much use of internet technologies beyond basic e-mail and networking. Online, Dustin goes by the aliases ddd2481 and funkbot69.

RE: To: GRAMPYD

Yeah He got me too, He cold mailed me through his Funkybot69@yahoo address and yes his snail address was for
Texas if that helps anyone else.

I have emailed him privately 2 times and also sent him a
an email through here but he will not answer. I needed a few things for my handicapped daughters garden I sure hope he enjoys the seeds we sent to him!!

RE: To: GRAMPYD

I think this kinda goes to show, that if anyone cold emails you, and they for sure have a verifiable GW name, but no reviews, that the cold emailer should be asked to mail his/her end first. It seems the cold emailers are a lot more of a problem that folks who are regular traders and who post to the forums.

I know there have been some members who didn't even know the cold emailer's GW member name, so trading without a member name is a real NO-NO imho.

Dizzy,
I would love to contribute some beach morning glory seeds, I have loads of them. I think I have climbing milkweed also. If you are interested please e-mail me your address, this one will be on me.

Bump--it looks like he's back. There was a recent entry in the R&R forum.

RE: To: GRAMPYD

Good catch Kathy645!

Just for fun, I emailed grampyd with a link to this thread as well as a link to his review thread and told him I hoped he would be able to make good on his past bad trades.

Am I bad?

Here is a link that might be useful: grampyd's review thread

 o
RE: To: GRAMPYD

Nope you aren't bad, Sue.

You just beat me to it. So if you are bad then I would have been bad too.

RE: To: GRAMPYD

I too have been conned by this guy Dustin Dashiell in Brookshire Texas. He's also sent me some scary threats when I told him I was going to report him.

I plan to file a police report to get a restraining order against him.

The new email he is using is: d3invertebrates@hotmail.com

I hope others don't have to go through this too... it's been a nightmare!

RE: To: GRAMPYD

Hi vantive80,

Welcome to Garden Web and The Seed Exchange. I see you just joined today, so your bad trading experience must have been from another trading site, right?

Sue

RE: To: GRAMPYD

Yup, exactly! I've been trying to find more info about this person and found this thread by searching Google for his name "Dustin Dashiell" which was in the email I received with the threats.

FYI: I've reported him to my local police department (getting them to file a case was like pulling teeth) and also reported him here:
http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx

Reading through the "grampyd's review thread" made me wish others had reported them before he got to me!
