WARNING! Bird Droppings!

After resisting for several years of going to get prescription glasses(because I lose and break so many of the $store and WM readers),my husband finally brow beat me into go for "real" glasses. I was shocked to find out that my eyesight wasn't going bad just because of old age but I had picked up a disease called "ocular histoplasmosis" a fungal disease found in bird droppings(in my case most possibly from chickens we use to raise)called "histoplasmosis capsulation". This fungus is found in chicken, piegon, bat ,etc droppings...but you don't have raise or be in direct contact w/ birds/bats...you can get it just by driving by a chicken house.

Luckily lesions in eyes are treatable w/ lazer surgery but if left untreated, you can go blind and worst case senario is removal of eyeball(s). So don't nelgected your eye health.....especially if your in direct contact w/ birds and their droppings.

RE: WARNING! Bird Droppings!

Glad to hear your DH annoyed you enough to go to the doctor and it was caught early enough to be treated. I've heard of histoplasmosis but thought it was primarily a lung disease. I've never heard of ocular histoplasmosis.
