I don't know its name, but it often came back from its base in the spring, so it lived as a perennial. It was never bothered by any kind of disease. Very tough grower and I have seen them achieve more than 2 ft. in height. The peppers are small, almost round and are very hot.Cardinals love to eat them and I have heard that this plant even grows wild. For trade, you name the seed and I likely have it or will ask around and find them for you.

I found out the name of this pepper. It is called TEPIN or Hot Tepin. It grows wild in desert areas.

They are also called bird peppers or turkey peppers. Yes they come back here in Texas all the way up to Waco so yes they are perennials. Around here the birds help plant them under the trees. If you keep them pruned they will bush out nicely. It is a woody plant with quite small leaves. A few years ago I was digging them up and transplanting them around my home but do not have any now. They transplant well.

My neighbor has that plant, we were just talking about it too! I can get some peppers for seeds if you still need them.
