HAVE: Honey Tangerine

Is anyone interested in trying their hand at growing citrus trees from seed? One of the best producers of fruit in my garden is the Honey Tangerine which I happily take the fruit of its labor each year around this time. Although the tree produces almost more fruit than we're able to eat out of hand, we do end up juicing quite a bit of it.

If you've never tasted the fruit, it's more than a treat. It's called 'Honey' Tangerine for a very good reason - it tastes just like incredibly rich orange juice that's been incorporated with honey. It's nothing like you've ever experienced until you've had it and then no other tangerine will compare.

The seeds I have are excess from juicing just so you know they've not been rolled around and spit out of the mouth!

The real question is will the fruit come true and will you get fruit? I have no way of knowing and it's probably worth the experimentation for an interested backyard hobbyist. While I have not intentionally grown citrus from seed, I do have an incredible tree which came up as a direct result of seed being inadvertently discarded. It literally sprang up threw a crack in the ground (amazing but true) and is one of the hardiest, prettiest and productive trees in the garden. It is a Meyer lemon in every respect - looks, tastes, quality, everything. The only difference is that the Meyer I originally purchased is not nearly as richly greened as the one that's growing on its own.

If you're interested in trying, leave a message here.

Thanks for your time.

Best,
Julie

I am interested in giving them a try if you don't mind questions as the attempt takes place. I have had them before and they are heavenly but I was just adopted and don't realy have seeds for a trade yet. Would you take a sase? Please let me know and send info for envy and postage if you will.

Thank you
Liz

Hi Liz, I would love to try some of your seed. My grandbabies can eat tangerines as fast as I can buy them. LMK what you are wanting for them.
Thanks

Hi there. I've had more replies than anticipated. Please post here even if you send me a private message that way I will know I've received a message from you.

Unfortunately, there are more times than I can count when, for some reason, messages instantly go into the junk mail filter rather than my inbox. So, at least if I have a place to refer back to so I know who has inquired.

There are a few packets still available. I'll note it within the post when they're all gone.

Thanks much!

Hi Julie!

I would like to have a go at it if you still have some. I had absolutely wonderful luck with citrus last spring and my babies are almost a year old now. I pushed the seeds into a pot of damp soil not expecting much and up came oranges lemons and limes (and pomegranates too). They weren't from a comercial seed source just took them out of the fruit I bought at the store or pulled from the trees and although it takes a lemon tree about ten years to produce fruit, ten years will pass anyway so some water and a little care are not much to pay in the gamble :)
Can I send some stamps or an SASBE? Just let me know. Thanks!

I would also love to try a couple of seeds. I just had a blood orange sprout from a seed a couple of days ago.
