I have been trying to find a highly acidic tomato like in my youth, I'm sick & tired of the bland "pseudo-tomatoes" sold in markets and stores. I have been growing the old Rutgers & Marglobe here, and I just tried Brandywine, and they are all fairly good, but I'm wondering if I can still find something sharper.
I also have a T-Bone taste, but a Hot Dog wallet!.. Hope to find inexpensive source of seeds, not wanted to have to take out a "Tomato" loan at the bank... hah!... Thanks, any help is appreciated... Swede |

Hi swede1234, Welcome to Garden Web and The Seed Exchange. I have been trying to find a highly acidic tomato like in my youth, Per the link below: If you go to This Site, for 2 stamps and a long business sized envelope, you can get 6 seeds of 6 different tomato varieties. You can pick the ones you want, or else request that they pick varieties for you. If unsure, you might want to just request those that are more tart or that have 'old time' flavor. hth. chemocurl...aka Sue

You are wanting Heirloom Tomato's that is where the flavor is.

Hi swede1234, I too am after that elusive tomato that makes your mouth pucker up with its juicy tartness. I am so bad that if I have to use store bought tomato juice that I add vinegar to it in an attempt to g et that old fashioned flavor. So far the best I have found is Black from Tula or Golden Sunray. This year I am planting and evaluating 200 new tomato varieties, hopefully I will find what we are searching for! Robert

Thanks, friends! Sorry to get back to this so late, but was having computer problems... I'll take up your advice... should have some success... Weather here has been strange in Central MN.... only got about 2 inches of snow so far, and that was just the past couple days!.... driest and warmest winter on record... Despite this, still looking forward to spring, and starting those seeds indoors... I may try to plant a couple in a container right away, too... so I may get a taste before summer... what do you think? Thanks again... just sent the SASE to Wintersown.org, excited about that, and agree about heirlooms... will always try those... the new tomatoes seem to be bred just for uniformity, and tough skins so picking machines won't squash them (sort of flavored leather, huh?_... Finally, will try Black from Tula, and Sunray... Take care... "May trouble always be a stranger to you!" Swede
