Has anyone here ever gotten the back page deal with Gilbert H. Wild and Son catalog. You can get 100 hostas for $100.00 I would like to try them but wonder do they all look the same or do you really get at least five different varieties? I'm wondering what other peoples experiences have been with this deal.

Do a google.com search for 'the scoop on Gilbert H. Wild and Sons - I found several negative reviews for them.

Yep, their Garden Watchdog rating is pretty poor. While they do seem to have some satisfied customers, but it wouldn't be worth the gamble to me, with all the great nurseries out there. You could use PlantScout to find many, many better possibilities, or, check with people over in the Hosta Forum, who can give you more on-topic advise.

Are there certain kinds u are looking for?

No, not looking for any certain ones or I wouldn't be considering their "by the handfull" deal. I have winter sown some last year from some of my own plants which had yellow edges (don't know the variety). But they all came up solid green. I was not surprised. I planted all of them because I have alot of shade under my pine and noble fir trees. It a rather large area and 20 or 30 all green hostas really won't make much of a dent. I've planted seed from Fragrant Bouquet, and Big Momma that I got in a trade this year. I've been doing some reading over on the hosta forum and I know they won't come true from seed. But it seems streaked hosts will give you some color from seed so I will start looking for some seed from any of those.

Some are usually brought to the Green Elephant plant swap in Redmond, WA. Another one coming up Sat. March 3. Info posted on the PNW Exchange forum. There are lots of other plants shared besides hosta, too. Corrine
