I ordered the 2"x2" clear zip bags from Amazon and they are perfect for seeds! I just thought I would pass the word along.

Is this post appropriate for the Forum?

Yes, it is the appropriate forum and these bags are wonderful for sending seeds, as long as the seeds are completely dry. If they are not, they will mold. If I send seeds in the plastic bags, I wrap them in a piece of Kleenex, just in case! You can use a piece of masking tape to label the envelope with what's in it and who it came from.

Thanks for the reminder. I just ordered some.

I have been using what are called "coin envelopes" that I get from the office supply store. They dont hold in the moisture like the plastic baggies and come in boxes of 250 count and more!

I also use the coin envelopes because they don't hold moisture but I occasionally use the little baggies. I like them for really tiny seeds.

I just go to Walmart and buy the 2x1 in zip bags for 1 dollar, 100 count. And saves for shipping.

I get mine from Walmart like luisito8m does.

For those who get the bags at Walmart:
where at in the store to you find them?

One other thing I like to do is to put a paper label inside the bad so the bags can easily be reused with out having sticky labels on the outside.

Matt they are usually in the arts and crafts dept near the beads. At my store they sell out way faster than the beads.I think maybe people are using them for other purposes if you get my drift. They sell a slightly larger size too

Matt, the tiny zips are located in the beading/craft department. I believe the small ones are 2x3 and are $1 for 100. They also have a slightly larger option...about 3x4. Those are $2 for 100. I find those handy for storing well dried seeds after harvest.

I also like to put the label on the inside of the zip so it can be easliy reused.

For trades I often use those lil envelopes you make from old seed catalogs/gardening magazines. When I have filled several to use in future trades, I place them in the 3x4 zips. One baggie for each type of seed.
Making the lil envies from old catalogs does take some time but it keeps my hands busy while watching tv on a long winter evening. If folded correctly, they contain even tiny seeds safely. There are always old catalogs that need to be repurposed. Besides, they are kinda cute :)

Mathew,...in our local WalMart, I find the mini-zips in the artsy-craftsy zone, where beads and jewelry findings, etc., live. They used to be back in the sewing department. - Bottom line: When in doubt, ask a worker bee! :)

I get mine at Dollar stores. Dollar General and others. current price is 1.00 for 100 just like Walmart. They usually have a variety of sizes also. ANYTHING to not have to goto Walmart lol

I buy my seed baggies from fetpak.com. I order 5000 bags at a time for about $40 and they ship for free.

I do have coin envelopes and the ones from staples that are a bit larger but I like the zippies better.

Happy packing!

Thanks to people sharing seeds through bakemom on the Winter Sowing Forum, I've seen some of the cute little envelopes handmade from magazine cut-outs. They're great for little seeds. But the sticky labels to seal them are much smaller than I've been able to find. Rather than cut the standard mailing labels down, is there an inexpensive source of those little sticky labels?

Not a lot of experience yet, but the ones I got that were sealed with "March of Dime" type stickers didn't stay sealed as well.

One person made little paper envelopes with a straight flap and sealed them with a swatch of the sticky strip of mailing label paper left on the sheet after you use up the labels. Those looked nice and secure.

Wow ishareflowers, 5000 would last me around 78 life times. Lol.

I typed this in, but I can't find it now so if it posts twice I apologize.
I receive many zip bags, but I can't read them. People mark them with permanent marker, but their handwriting leaves a little bit to be desired or the color is too clear and it's hard to make out the words. I like it when people type up a little piece of paper and slip it inside.
My friend uses coin envelopes and runs them through a copier, including name and photo of plant. They are in black adn white, but it's visually nice to see the plant.

Question: Where is the best place to buy bubble envelopes?

The Dollar Tree store near me sells 6x9" 3M bubble envelopes - 2 for 99 cents. Not bad if I only need a few.

Xiangirl,

Cool user name..
U should try amazon! I buy mine there and I get them usually for 20 cents a piece, including shipping..

For example, I just ordered a 25 pack, and cost me 9 cents for all, but the shipping cost me around 4.90 dollars.. adding both up.. each cost me 20 cents..

Great deal uh?? :)

RE: 2'x2' clear zip bags

Indiana.Matt, that's a really good price...500 baggies for $4.95, with free shipping. Besides good prices, I like the convenience of having things delivered, as opposed to having to get them in stores, and then often finding they are more expensive, or they are out of stock.

RE: 2'x2' clear zip bags

OK, but I like the gold, green, blue, purple and red colored bags. Where Can I get those?
