FREE Tomato seed offer

Posted by heirloomer08 4 IA (My Page) on

I have been thinking about this offer for a long time and I want to give it a try. With the economy as bad as it is let's not think of ourselves this time. Granted it can't take place until spring but the seeds need to be started soon. I am willing to offer Heirloom Tomato seed of my choice to 15 people willing to "pay it forward". What this means is that you can get some seed but you can't use them yourself. Please get the plants started and give them away to a family or indivual that can "really" use the food produced from the plants. If they don't know how to raise tomatoes please give them some pointers to get them started.

All you have to do is leave a post here AND email me with "pay it forward" in the subject. I will then send you my address and you will then need to mail as SASE to that address. I will send at least 2 varieties of heirloom tomatoes back to you.

If you CANNOT "pay it forward" PLEASE do not respond to this offer. It is "on you honor" to honor the guidelines of the offer.
Thanks, heirloomer08

RE: FREE Tomato seed offer

I would love to be able to receive some of your tomato seeds. I do grow a vegetable garden every year. Last summer I shared my crop with my family and neighbors. They were thrilled to have fresh veggies, and the bonus was it helped curb their grocery bill. When summer was over, I thought about how much everybody enjoyed the harvest, and decided this summer I wanted to grow extra tomato, cucumber and pepper plants to bring to the senior citizen center in my town in late May for the elderly to have. Where I live, a plantling easily would cost $4.00 each. I did talk with the director last Fall about my plans, and she was delighted and said the seniors would love to have a couple of tomato and cucumber plants. She also said the cost of buying the plants usually stops seniors, as they are on limited income. So that is my mission for this spring. To grow extra tomatoes and cucumber plants to give to the senior citizens....I will send you an email

RE: FREE Tomato seed offer

First off, a GREAT BIG THANKS goes out to the people that replied to the offer so far!!! But, I have to say, I am some what disappointed in the low response to my offer. As generous as we all are with each other in trades and whatnot within out group I really thought there would be a better response to this offer. I just thought that it would be a great helping hand for the needy in our own country. I know it could be a bit hard to "Pay it Forward" as that is not something we are not acustom to doing on a regular basis. Sometime a random act of kindness is hard to do but once we start it will balloon into something better.

I am still taking on more participates if you wish. Just email and post here if you would like to participate. Please, let's all do a random act of kindness. When the offer becomes closed I will do another posting to let you know that it is closed. But until then it is still open to anybody.
Later, heirloomer08

A great offer. I too have just the basic varieties of cabbage, peppers and tomatoes that will be sent to mainly my immediate family and to my brothers and sisters at the union hall (tough times in the construction industry). I generally run out after that. All seeds that I purchased were through a couple of the large companies out there. Flat dutch, primo cabbages. Burgermaster, Mortgage Lifter and Delicious Tomatoes. Sweet Banana and Jumbo Bells. I have another 100 to be transplanted (hydroponics) and get aclimated. So yes, I would like to accept your offer of any additional seeds to help out. Thank you for this offer and to GW for the learning and social experience.

RE: FREE Tomato seed offer

I have already requested some seeds for this offer, but to give everybody a few more ideas on where they might look to offer the plantlings once they started to grow are: Nursing homes/assisted living facilities, most have a small area where they do have a small garden space for the elderly in residence. Maybe try dropping a few off at a local food bank. Places of worship, after school programs, or daycare's. Even possibly drop a few off at your local thrift store, I know the thrift shop I visit would love to have some to offer for free at their check-out counter....if you do decided to laves a few plants somewhere to be distributed, attach a "how-to" grow a care for the tomato plant. Helping people one seed at a time____:>)

Funny you should have this offer right now.... I've just been talking to some of my church members about providing gardening and produce for some of the older members and community folk who love to garden, but can't anymore. We're trying to get some volunteers to actually provide the garden at their house, and also have veggies to give at church.

We also have a food distribution program that I'm HOPING we can give some veggies for. Our church is in a Historic Black district in Jackson MS, and the community folk very seldomly get fresh foods.

re: free tomato seed offer ****closed*****

Well, we did it! I have enough orders to fill for the Pay it Forward offer. I really hope that everybody is able to help out as many individuals and family's as they can. Who knows maybe somebody else will have some extra seed and be able to Pay it Forward. One small step can turn into a really large thing! A great big THANKS goes out to everybody that joined in!!!!!!!! When I get the orders filled and I by chance have any seed left I will reopen the offer. Until then this offer is now CLOSED!
Thanks, heirloomer08
