RE: WANTED: lemon grass

I have never seen any seeds, but if you have an ethnic grocery store near you get those ugly looking stalks in the produce department. I say ugly as most people do not buy then. Last year I bought a small bunch of 7 for $1. They looked half dead, brown on the outside. I just took those small shoots and punched a hole in my soil and everyone of them produced large plants by the middle of summer. In your area I would suggest that you harvest them before you have any freezes as they are not that winter hardy,m but they should hold up in your crisper thru the winter with care. I cut mine back to about 6 inches as they did not look that good at the tops. I keep giving them away each year as they get quite large during one season. The postage could cost around $5 for shoots.

Howdy ymaddox,

Wally actually gave you some valuable info. I recently picked up some lemon grass stalks at Whole Foods, put them in a glass with a couple inches of water and waited. After a couple weeks, they sprouted roots.

That being said, I do have some Lemon Grass seed from D. Landreth Seed Company (2013). You have a couple things I'm really interested in: Red Fig tomato, Coneflower- Green Envy, and Poppy- Black Peony. If you want to take a look at my list and see if there is anything that you'd like, that would be great. And I do also have the lemon grass seed (although you wont see it on my trade list).

Thanks so much for your time,
Erica
