Before you plant these, PLEASE check with your appropriate state agency or EPPC to see if it is invasive in your state. This nasty scurge is a real environmental problem in most of the southern and eastern US.

I second brandon7's comments. I have some tree seeds I would gladly send you. If you are looking for flowering trees especially, I will harvest some seeds for you this year, especially if you'd plant them instead of paulownia. It's a nasty one!

Thanks for the heads up brandon7 and kchd! I had no idea. My mother had seen it somewhere and wanted to try it, I said I would look for seeds. I didn't know it would considered an invasive specimen. I will tell her to do some more research on it. Thanks!

Here are some possible alternatives (all are native to the US), depending on your location/preferences/etc: Catalpa bignonioides (southern catalpa) Note that some of these can be a little "weedy" in some areas, but none are considered invasive (at least in the regions from which they are from). Even if they were technically invasive somewhere, they would not be as environmentally damaging as Paulownia tomentosa.
