Thanks for the post as I have never seem them before. All I have are the single purple blooms. I have never heard of them not getting enough heat as all of mine give me blooms quite early in the spring and all my seeds were harvested months ago. I understand how you could give away too many seeds when they do well. This has taught me to make sure I save enough seeds as backups no matter what. The best seeds are always the fresh ones we save.

I planted the seeds I had left. They would come up but be the red ones. I did get some in front of my house, this spring, but bad people came by and vandalized the plants before I could get seeds. I did not have any in back. I do sometimes get seeds from the poppies, obliviously, but sometimes I don't get viable seeds if there is not enough summer heat. My summers are about 60 degrees, they like 70 plus temps.

Giving them to others was part of my plot to keep them going, in case I had failure, I would ask for them back in trade. The seeds I had were also labeled 2011, so I have not had them since 2011, as the seeds age, they become less viable.

I like the red ones, but the purples are bigger and fluffier and over all more magnificent.

I don't know if I should bother people with a group email or not. I did save the emails of the people who I sent seeds to. I will give back any seeds, if I get them or if I can get some to make a seed head this years. It takes about six months, sometimes to get the plant from seedling to flower. If it hot, it really speeds this process up. When it is cold and foggy, the growth cycle slows down. They don't like to bloom or set seeds when the weather is cool. If I lived in Sacramento, I would have them no problem.
