I usually don't say anything, but where are you located? Autumn Olive is very very invasive in many parts of the country, including where I live. Might you consider something else?

Distribution map

I hope to spend a lot of time this winter working at trying to get it under control in places here on my property. It is as bad, or worse than the invasive introduced bush honeysuckle and/or multiflora rose.

Maybe folks at either The Shrub Forum or The Native Plant Forum could offer some better alternatives.

Thanks for your concern Sue .It looks like from the map that I should be able to find infestations of it in my area of s.e.iowa but I havent seen it yet. I dont do much hiking anymore. What I plant is for bonsai and containers so I think it will be contained from my end . I understand they are edible so if I actually got some to set seed I would be gathering the tiny amount to try out. Ric

If driving in the country on a windy day, it is often easily noticed because of the backs of the leaves being so silvery.

Since it is for Bonsai, and if you don't happen to readily find any growing locally, lmk if you might like a few seeds for postage. I haven't noticed the berries on those around here this season, but haven't really been looking for them, but imagine there are plenty. It does grow quite fast, or so it seems to me.

Also, I don't know how the seeds are harvested and saved. Do you? Saved in the berry pulp? Removed and dried?

Sue
