wanted: gw folks rsponse to chameleon plant post

Thanks for your experience with this plant. I have been trying to decide whether it is crazy or not to plant it. I also got some input from a gal in Utah (south of where I live ) and she has only had it die. My guess is the rainfall and temperature are making the difference. I am trying to cover sand and gravel near a river in a mostly lower precipitation area than yours. Right now I have Musk thistle ( a listed noxious weed species) that I want to crowd out over a large area. I also get a puncture plant in this area, so something not prickly and punchy seems a better choice for invasive and noxious. Do you know of a better choice? Anyone?
