I would say just enough to get the seeds back to you. If it is a thin package (tomatoes & peppers), then 3 seeds is plenty. If it is bulky (beans & corn) then I always send 5. Now, if you are sending stamps in exchange for seeds, then I would be very careful. Appearantly, several people have fallen victim to a person who continues to re register with new names, post awesome trade lists for postage, and then you never hear back from her. Just check the R&R first. I will not be a hypocrite and say not to do it, because I once was in the middle of a trade and the lady I was trading with had some really awesome stuff, and I didn't really have all that much. I think I wanted 10 from her and she only needed 8 of mine. She told me not to worry about it just to put some stamps in there. In this case I did, and everything worked out. Justbe careful and use your own judgement! I hope this helps! Robert

It all depends on how many packets of seeds you want. Just a few packets would be 2 stamps. 1 ounce in a bubble mailer. between 1 and 2 ounces is 3 stamps. and so on.

i think he is saying that the person is wanting stamps in exchange for seeds plus postage...probably to allow them extra stamps to trade with. seems silly to me but each to their own i guess, just depends on what your willing to do. if you look at 4 stamps that is a 1.72 plus whatever the postage for your seeds would be, my guess probably about the same. so about 3.44 for the trade so you have to decide is it worth it. it is in my opinion a odd request if this is what the trader is asking of you. and come to think of it that does not include your stamp to send all that...so would be around 3.88. if your looking at common seeds...walmart generally has 20 cent seeds, so you could get almost 20 packs of seed for that cost. just depends on what your willing to do i guess. i would be very careful though.

zackey, I've only been on GW for a year so you I'm no expert. I've done quite a number of trades and have had very good experiences. I can say that I've never been asked to send extra stamps instead of a trade of seeds. I've only seen one person ask for this arrangement in a thread and thought it was odd. I agree with ymaddox. It costs 88 cents to send the bubble envie to them plus 88 for them to mail it to you plus whatever stamps they are asking for in 'payment'. There are tons of friendly, generous folks here on GW. In time you'll find another person with the same seeds. Let us know how it works out.

Trading for postage There is no such thing as Trading for postage One trades seeds for other seeds, or else a member offers to send the seeds for postage. That is to be as close to the amount of 'exact postage as they can be. Trading seeds for stamps is actually selling seeds which is not allowed. Sending seeds for postage, and asking for 'extra' stamps that would be profit, is against GW Terms of Service and can easily get a member banned. It has happened before when there were problems and proof was provided to GW. Happy Trading!

The way I've always done seeds for postage was to request the person send me a bubble envelope, with a self-addressed peel-and-stick label inside, plus however many stamps one would reasonably expect necessary for the seeds requested. I pack the envelope, stick on the label, and take the un-sealed envelope to my post office and get it weighed. If there are more stamps than necessary to mail the envelope, I put them back inside the envelope before I seal and mail it.
