E-mail rant OT

What is with the pollution going on in e-mail? As if spam wasn't bad enough now we are being inundated with moronic 'send this on to 10 people or the world will come to and end' things. The low point was the latest example of extortion. 'Send this on to 10 people and return it to me. If I don't get it back, I'll know you're not my friend anymore'. We need some way to put an end to this. I delete all of them but I can't get my wife to do so. I have debated sending a message saying KNOCK IT OFF to everyone in my address book.

Send one back that says "If you send this to ten people, you'll be detested 10x more than you are...send it to no one and you're moving up the ladder of humanity"...;)

I am the original chain-letter end-of-the-road! My sister in law does forward lots of really good ones, but I'm pretty selective about which are worthy of going any further -- and then, I usually only send on to one daughter and my own sister. Usually the raucous ones like the toilet paper roll made out of cheese graters hinged together, or the 3 Dollar Bill with Michael Jackson's face on it...:))

My boss sent me one last week about the family with the newborn baby with leukemia, and AOL is supposedly tracking the number of times it is forwarded and making donations to the baby's family. Well, not only has this silly thing been floating around for over 3 years, but how the heck does AOL find out that somebody with a Yahoo address sent it to somebody with a MSN address???

I will confess though -- my latest post on the Conversations board was one from the brother in law who is a pastor. No replies because it's too stupid to have forwarded, or just because y'all didn't see it?

I royally chewed out my FIL for passing on one that said if you forward this you'll have all the good luck, but if you don't bad luck curse on you and yours. He didn't even realize that the curse part was there, just mindlessly forwarded it. I gave him H@#L for that Big Time.

I consider them as bad as a virus! They are tying up a lot of computers and time. I hate them and read and delete (sometimes don't read, unless they are from a relative). People with too much time on their hands.....

That's why your keyboard has a 'delete' button. Do not reply to them. It only encourages them and more spam....
If you insist tho...send me your bank account number, social security number, and date of birth, and i'll forward it on to Nigeria.. :)
I get twenty or so spams a day, rolex watches, increase penis size, business ops, longer ejacs, winning tickets, meet women in your area, buy land in Costa Rica, ect...only takes me a few seconds to delete, delete, delete...

The sickly sweet stuff with the ending of forward to all your friends is called Glurge.

    I rarely get spam.
I was talking about the forwarded jokes and emails that friends think I mite be interested in.

My ISP has excellent spam and virus filters.
I have never had a virus reach my inbox.
And I rarely get spam emails.

How come y'all get harmless spam/email junk and I get all the spam for Cialis and Viagra? My DH and I have separate email accounts and when one of these spams come in, I tease him and say he's gotten email on my computer. We have a good laugh. The problem is, sometimes my son (13) opens my email to see if there's any news about soccer. I had to explain to him that I don't request information from folks wanting to know about "longer, lasting experiences". For some reason, my spam control can't keep these from coming in.
Take care and hit the delete button,
    Carla

Some of them, okay, most of the ones we get are sort worth reading. Some are worth sending on but only after deleting the "send it on" bit. I am working on teaching Alma how to do that.
