Grass Fed Beef Article In Time Magazine

Just read an interesting article on grass fed beef in the magazine. Did comparisons on emissions and how much other work, fuel, is needed to feed grain to feedlot cattle and the grass fed animals.

I thought article covered a lot of ground, including the time needed for both feed programs to get animal to weight for slaughter.

A number of benefits, grass fed can graze unusable ground that can't grow crops. Grazers will reduce carbon dioxide levels and work the soil with sharp hooves. Conjecture said perhaps more grazing could reduce the high carbon dioxide if feedlots were not handling the quantity of animals now contained. Would need a LOT of pastureage, rotational grazing programs, for animal quantity needed to make a real difference. Fats produced by grass fed animals have a very different, healthier, kind of fat on carcass, than feedlot animals fed grain diets.

So an interesting read, with points I had not considered much.
