Is anyone else so sick of all the mud right now? We have had a really wet year, and I am so tired of all the mud.

Anyways...that sort of leads to my question...I am looking for ideas of things to plant other than grass. We have 21 acres, and there is a portion that goes down a fairly steep hill that is often trampled on by our free range chickens and guineas. And us, of course, since it leads down to the pasture and goat pen. So I am looking for something to plant on that hill, and around the rest of our yard. Something that we can also walk on, and the chickens can be around. Is there anything else out there, really? Our entire front and side yard will be flowers, herbs and our veggie gardens, so that part is covered.

This might be a silly idea...can I plant hay??? The chickens can munch on it as it is growing. I am open to any and all ideas! The grass just did not grow good there last year.
