Orpingtons buff, black and blue crosses and egg color

I only have one black orp. pullet, she will be a year old the first of June, I also have a blue roo that hatched w/her. The black and blue are not as friendly as my three buffy girls but they are not flighty or nervous like my marans, (just to answer your question Susan from a previous post).

I am starting to save the eggs from my orps, and hope to set them in a few days. I am curious to see what kind of chicks I will get (if any) w/the mix of colors I am crossing. It will be an interesting experiment.

I also plan on throwing in some eggs in the incubator that are mixed, I wonder if I cross my blue orp roo w/my americaunas and marans what the egg color will be? My hunch is just a generic brown.

Last year I crossed my welsummer roo (dark brown egg) w/an EE'er hen (intense olive green) and the result was a plain brown. But when I crossed the same roo w/my marans I got a nice dark brown since they are both dark shelled birds.

Has anyone crossed a blue egger w/a brown?

Sheila
