hatching geese

Howdy. I have a sebastopol goose setting on 15 eggs. I am told the goslings need to be raised by people in order to make them more people friendly. If she hatches the eggs, how do I remove them from her without losing a limb or an eye? The nest is pond-side. Will she keep her chicks out of the pond when they are very young or will she take them to the pond for safety? That's what my wood ducks do and their chicks seem to get water logged fairly easy. Help please, Ray

Try removing the goslings at night, when she's calmer and doesn't see as well, maybe? Although geese MAY see just dandy at night, I don't know.

I envy you, Sebastopols are on my 'want list'! :)

If you want them to be the tamest possible then you can take them from mom. Just have some one hold her while you snatch up the goslings. You could just take the 1st few to hatch and leave the later hatchlings for her to brood.

No Woodies for me this year, I lost the drake. Do you keep them in pairs or 1 drake with 2 ducks? or??
