When is the right time to put up Martin Gourds?

I have recently got interested in Purple Martins because of the fact that they are now completely reliant on humans for housing. Also the fact that they come from Brazil to North America every year back to their same house.

I'm afraid however, I have waited to late to put them up in Georgia. Do Any of you know when's the best time to have them up?

They are such interesting birds! I had thought of building a purple martin birdhouse, but just don't want to get into that right now. Let us know when you have martins in your gourd house.

it all sounded interesting to me until I read the part about putting them up every year when the P Martins leave. I definitely have some wasps around here that would move right in. I can't even lay a board on its side and come back a few days later without find a freaking daubber tunnel. Which is why I am seeking Guineas.

Well I am still growing my gourds this year. I just had not thought about the wasp situation. bummer!!
