I'm thinking about getting 10 chickens and building a coop 6' X 6' with a 6' X 14' screened run is that to many chickens for that size space.

RE: coop size

I thinkit is, my hubby just bought me,hes a builder but every1 knows that story.Anyways its about 8' long 6' wide.I have 4 hens 1 rooster I wouldn't want anymore. But you cant go too big either for warmth in winter. The new fangled ones where you open little door, eggs in there .Really cute but not pratical .Theres a big hole in floor. The run is underneath.Thehole is there always,You cant see the chickens at all under there.A lot of flaws.

RE: coop size

Here is a short article from, which seems to be a reasonable (yet a bit eager) site. Two points they make cover whether you have the fortitude to resist buying yet more of those little fuzzy peepers, and how much time they will spend in there.

Here is a link that might be useful: Back Yard Chickens: room!
