Nigerian Dwarfs are more colorful in my opinion and not so stocky looking.

When I started searching for dairy goats I wanted something that I could take care of by myself. So for me the Nigerian Dwarfs were perfect. I get milk and also if need be pick them up and carry them where ever I need to. And they come in so many different colors and patterns.

I have raised Oberhasli Dairy Goats for 12 years. I like the Obers because they are a medium sized dairy goat(130-150lbs), smart, quiet, and personable. I get at least a gallon a day from most of my does, leaving me with plenty of milk to drink and make into cheese. They are very hearty in the cold and snow. They readily hop into the back of my old Volvo station wagon (The Goatmobile) and ride to the vet or wherever we need to go.

I would second the suggestion for Oberhaslis! For me, theyre the ones with the most personality! They aren't too big, but big enough to provide plenty of milk and use as pack goats if you have whethers.

I also love Alpines...their colors are wonderful. They're a little more skiddish than the Oberhaslis, but are still wonderful companions, and easy to handle.

Whatever your decision, all dairy goats are excellent! But these two are my favorites!

I've have Alpines and have had Nubians. Liked them both. I found that it is an individual animal that I like or dislike and not the breed. Tom
